Prosom Abuse

Estazolam, also known as the brand name ProSom, is classified as a benzodiazepine, and is a prescription drug commonly used to treat insomnia. Side effects of this drug include daytime drowsiness, forgetfulness, issues with balance or coordination, muscle weakness, headache, nausea and dry mouth.

ProSom is generally only prescribed for a short period of time, as withdrawal symptoms can develop after just ten days of continuous use. When used as directed, this drug is not only safe, but effective.

Estazolam Dependency

When used without a prescription, or beyond the recommended timeframe as established by a physician, those using estazolam can quickly develop a tolerance for the drug. Mixing this drug with alcohol can also increase tolerance and overall dependence.

Symptoms of abuse include increased insomnia, sweating, dizziness, panic attacks, irritability, seizures, depression, sudden personality changes, heart palpitations, memory loss and hallucinations.

Many of these symptoms are only heightened by suddenly stopping use of the drug. To avoid withdraw, users often return to the drug, developing a physical and psychological dependence.
