Treatment Philosophy

Download Talbott Recovery Campus Program Brochure

The treatment philosophy at Talbott Recovery Campus is based on the American Medical Association's definition of addiction as a chronic, progressive, primary illness affecting the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the individual and the family.

Talbott Recovery Campus provides an integrated continuum of care for individuals with addictive disease and/or dual diagnosis such as addiction with a coexisting depression, unresolved grief, personality problems and the accompanying emotional and physical problems. Treatment for addiction is both comprehensive and individualized. Patients and their families participate in psychoeducational and psychotherapeutic groups designed to help them explore addiction and dual disorders as well as the impact these diseases can have on the family. Throughout this process patients attend 12 Step meetings (on and off campus) and family members are encouraged to attend Al-Anon meetings.

TALBOTT at Dunwoody offers a comprehensive range of services through a day treatment program for addiction. TALBOTT at Dunwoody provides 12-Step based treatment to those 18 and older, addressing both substance abuse and dual diagnoses. Our treatment philosophy and practices have grown out of 30 years of successful treatment in our traditional 90-day programming at Talbott Recovery Campus. Programming hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Additionally, our patients are required to attend 12 Step meetings.

Alcoholism / Chemical Dependency Program
"Short term treatment of addiction (28 days) is like throwing seeds into the ground and hoping they take root. Intermediate care, such as that provided by the Talbott Recovery Campus treats the personality, because the personality is the soil in which recovery is planted. Our job is to tend that soil; to make a patient's personality fertile so that recovery will grow deep roots and recovery blossoms."

Paul H. Earley, M.D., FASAM - Talbott Recovery Campus Medical Director

Impaired Professionals Program
"Professionals should be treated with their peers. The shame and blame professionals experience goes well beyond what other alcoholics experience - we're supposed to know all the answers. To recover, we need to be in the presence of other professionals."

G. Douglas Talbott, M.D. - Talbott Recovery Campus Founder, Medical Director Emeritus

Young Adult Program
"Recent studies indicate that young adults with addictive disorders are seldom addicted to just one substance or behavior. They are experiencing significant life changes, and are subject to high levels of peer pressure. At Talbott Recovery Campus we understand the importance of flexibility in meeting the therapeutic needs of our young adult population as they are learning to navigate their constantly changing social environment."

Michael Fishman, M.D. - Talbott Recovery Campus Director of Young Adult Program

Dual Addiction Program

Talbott Recovery Campus’ Dual Addiction Program for Adults provides a combination of education, individual therapy and group therapy for those struggling with both substance dependence and addictive sexual behavior. Recent research reveals that as many as 50% and higher of certain populations struggling with alcohol and/or drug addiction are also engaging in compulsive sexual activity which causes equal damage to health, self-esteem and relationships. As such, we have developed a highly specialized dual diagnosis rehab program to simultaneously address both problems. The Dual Addiction Program is gender-specific, based on the 12-Step treatment model, and involves addiction education, psychosexual education and spiritual exploration and development.
